Powered into this innovative optical design are advanced XD Linear motors to deliver superior G Master image quality, fast, precise autofocus, smooth control, and solid reliability; a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture that performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions; and an outstanding lens construction that consists of a series of XA, aspherical, Super ED, and ED elements - all contributing to reduce a variety of aberrations and distortions for an enhancement of sharpness, accurate rendering, and notable colour accuracy.
Other features to this lens include dust- and moisture-sealed design and a fluorine-coated front lens element that's ideal for when photographing in inclement conditions; it can be utilised on APS-C models as well where it will then provide a 18-36mm equivalent focal length; a floating focus system; a Nano AR coating that's been applied to the lens element to help minimise flare, surface reflections, and ghosting for enhanced contrast and colour rendering in strong lighting conditions.
